Grad Knight to Know: Abigail Wagher '26M, MFA

Growing up in Harleysville, Pa., Abigail Wagher '26M, MFA always had a deep love for reading, writing, and the study of language and linguistics. It led her to a BA in English from Cairn University, a tenth-grade English teaching job in the School District of Philadelphia, and now, to Arcadia University's Creative Writing and English dual degree program.

"I've wanted to do this grad program since high school actually!" she says. "The idea of getting to study literature and write fiction at the same time within a classroom setting where I'm learning from my professors and peers seemed like such a cool opportunity, and I love how my classes for my MA and my MFA enhance each other-I get to apply what I learn in either study to both studies."

Students in Arcadia's dual degree program earn an MFA in Creative Writing and an MA in English in three years. The MFA coursework includes a study abroad component.

"The MFA week in Edinburgh was my first time overseas and one of the coolest experiences of my life!" says Wagher.

While she continues to teach, Wagher's aspirations go beyond the classroom. "I hope to broaden my knowledge of genres, voices, and perspectives of literature to deepen my understanding of the human experience across time and cultures. I also hope to use what I learn in my writing workshops to someday become a published novelist."

Somehow, she also finds time to explore nature and do arts and crafts with friends.
