Your pop culture news feed has likely been inundated with two things: Kamala Harris coconut tree memes, and Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman mugging it up while promoting their new summer blockbuster, Deadpool & Wolverine. BU Today is celebrating the release of the third installment in the Deadpool franchise with a trivia quiz. The prize is two tickets to see the movie tonight at 7:30 pm at AMC Boston Common 19. Each person who answers all the questions correctly on the form below by noon today, Thursday, July 25, will be entered in a drawing for the tickets; BU Today will announce the winner today by 1 pm.
Anyone who has seen the previous two Deadpool films knows they are irreverent and earn their R ratings. Early reviews say this one is no different, and also includes plenty of in-jokes, quips, fourth-wall breaking, and Disney bashing-after all, this is the first time the characters of Deadpool and Wolverine are included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), taking full synergistic advantage of Disney's 2019 acquisition of 21st Century Fox.
*Spoilers for the plot of the movie below.*
Deadpool & Wolverine kicks off as Deadpool (Reynolds), aka Wade Wilson, gets the news that he has been rejected from joining the Avengers, his long-held dream. He is resigned to spending his life working as a used car salesman. (A further insult is that he lives with an 80-year-old addicted to cocaine.) Fortunately, a "middle manager" (Succession's favorite son-in-law, Matthew Macfadyen) visits Deadpool with a message that his entire universe will be downsized and eliminated, unless he can assign it to someone else. He uses the Time Variance Authority (TVA)-a significant part of the Disney+ series Loki, but new to the Deadpool world-to help get to the MCU. And he resurrects a reluctant Wolverine from the grave (since he died in the 2017 film Logan) to save the day.
*End of spoilers.*
Directed by Shawn Levy (Stranger Things), the R-rated film (for blood, gore, and more) has a current score of 81 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
To enter, answer the questions in the form below by noon today. Be sure to include your phone number, email address, and BU affiliation. The winner will be notified by email or phone.
