Webinar: Connecting Cognia and Local Common Assessment Systems

Audience: Superintendents, Curriculum Directors, Principals, and Teachers
Connecting Cognia and Local Common Assessment Systems, on August 8, 2024, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., will make connections between state assessment results and student performance within a local common assessment system. Participants will examine how Cognia items may differ in language, format and approach from local instructional materials and assessment tools. Educators can consider developing instructional and formative assessment strategies that reflect the types of Common Core-aligned items students experience on the state assessment, giving students a better opportunity to show what they know, understand, and can do. Save The Date: Governor's Annual School Safety Conference - Sept. 30, 2024

Audience: School Community Members, Emergency Management Partners
Vermont's Agency of Education, Department of Public Safety, and the Vermont School Safety Center are pleased to announce that the Governor's Annual School Safety Conference will be held on Sept. 30, 2024. This one-day, in-person event is expected to be held in the greater Burlington area, and a specific location will be announced later this summer. The conference will include keynotes and breakout sessions presented by several of the country's foremost school safety experts and advocates. Further details and registration links are forthcoming.

Virtual Meeting: Adult Diploma Program Design and Development

Audience: Superintendents, Principals, Guidance Counselors, Curriculum Coordinators
On Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 8 a.m. to noon, school leaders are being asked to join Adult Education Literacy providers and representatives from the Vermont Agency of Education for a virtual meeting to discuss the development of Vermont's new Adult Diploma Program (ADP). The changes to the ADP were made under 16 V.S.A. ยง 945, along with the repeal of the High School Completion Program (HSCP). Bomb Threat and Swatting Hoax Training - July 25, 2024

Audience: School Administrators
FBI Boston and Massachusetts State Police will host four virtual training sessions on Responding to and Investigating Bomb Threats and Swatting Hoaxes for public safety dispatchers, law enforcement personnel, school administrators and decision makers. The sessions will take place on Thursday, July 25, 2024, via Microsoft Teams. Sessions are scheduled for 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. This one-hour training provides information regarding characteristics of hoax calls, law enforcement best practices for assessment and response, and the decision-making process for evacuation or sheltering in place.
