The Village of Lansing and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago will celebrate the completion of the North Creek Flood Relief Project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 18840 S. Sherman St., Lansing, IL on Tuesday, July 30 at 1 p.m.

This project, funded by the MWRD at a cost of $1.6 million, involved constructing a new culvert for North Creek to alleviate flooding and safeguard 56 residential structures in the vicinity of Flanagin Park.

The North Creek Flood Relief Project stems from the MWRD's Local Stormwater Partnership Program, which enables local government organizations to seek financial assistance for constructing vital stormwater infrastructure. The project, located in the Flanagin Subdivision, was selected in 2020 to receive funding and support to address flooding issues. In Jan. 2022, the MWRD entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement with the village to pay the village for the project's design, construction, operation and maintenance.

Construction began in 2023 and took eight months. The IGA provisions enabled the MWRD to review the design and conduct post-construction inspections.

MWRD President Kari K. Steele, Village of Lansing Mayor Patricia L. Eidam, and other officials will give presentations.
