Suspect Arrested and a Firearm Recovered After a Person Shot in Dorchester

At about 9:55 PM, on Saturday, August 10, 2024, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Demanni White-Tharps, 19, of Quincy, on firearm charges.

Officers responded to the area of Castlegate Road and Normandy Street for a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Boston EMS transported the adult male victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives began to view cameras in the area, and observed a possible suspect exit a vehicle and walk up a driveway and then flee the area. Officers on scene searched the area and recovered a discarded firearm. The firearm was later determined to be a Cande Mefe Century Arms LNK 9X19 with spent shell casing in the chamber and twelve rounds in the magazine which was capable of holding eighteen.

As officers searched for the suspect and located him in the area of 28 Columbia Road. The suspect was immediately placed into handcuffs, and transported to District B-2 for booking.

White-Tharps was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling, and Assault and Battery with a Firearm. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
