Rawlins Library: July Programming

July is National Anti-Boredom Month, and Rawlins Public Library is committed to keeping apathy at bay. With help from the Hoopla app, the library is offering more than 450 free courses ranging from guitar lessons to foreign language classes to economics and finance. In addition, the library is offering all the activities listed below.

TAKE AND MAKE ACTIVITY: MARSHMALLOW TOWER CHALLENGE

During July, stop at Rawlins Library for all the supplies you need to make a marshmallow tower. Directions and all needed materials are available at the circulation desk while supplies last.

SUMMER READING ADVENTURE

Session two of Rawlins Summer Reading Adventure Camp starts July 1. It features programming for pre-K kids to teenagers. Details and registration are available at CityofPierre.org via the Summer Recreation program.

ONE BOOK SOUTH DAKOTA: AUTHOR TALK & SIGNING

Monday, July 1 from 12 p.m.

Trent Preszler, the author of this year's One Book South Dakota novel Little and Often, will provide an author talk and offer books signings at Rawlins Library. Registration requested by calling 605.773.7421.

UNLEASH YOUR INNER SPY

Monday, July 8 at 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Do you have what it takes to be a clandestine agent? Find out by joining the Summer Reading Program for Adults and choose your own adventure with the Spied novel. With any luck, you'll live to share your undercover technique with other survivors on July 8 or Aug. 5. Those who most successfully complete the mission will be rewarded. ADULT BOOK CLUB (TUESDAYS)

July 9, 16, 23, & 30 at 6 p.m.

In July, the club will read Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. To reserve a book or join the club, email [email protected], call 605.773.7421, or sign up in person. Water and coffee are provided. Participants must be 18 or older.

CROCHET CLUB (TUESDAYS)

July 9, 16, 23, & 30 from 12:00 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Join Rawlins free crochet club led by a Creativebug online instructor. Each participant will receive a free crochet hook and a small skein of yarn.

HISTORY OF THE OLYMPICS

Wednesday, July 10 at 6:30 p.m.

As we ramp up to the 2024 Summer Olympics, learn more about the history of the competition from retired local educator, Jay Mickelson. Registration requested at 605.773.7421.

FOR THE THRILL OF IT BOOK CLUB

Sunday, July 21 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The For the Thrill of It book club will read The Only One Left by Riley Sager. Register for this thriller genre reading book club by visiting the front desk at the library or calling 605.773.7421. Must be 18 or older.

STORYTIME WITH ICE CREAM AND SPRINKLES? YES, PLEASE!

Hooray for National Ice Cream Day! Come to Rawlins Library for a special children's storytime and enjoy a free cup of ice cream topped with sprinkles. Ice cream and sprinkles available while supplies last.
