U.S. Senate Chaplain and former U.S. Navy Chief of Navy Chaplains, Rear Admiral Upper Barry C. Black

Goshen, N.Y. - Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus will host the annual Orange County Leadership Prayer Breakfast on October 2nd at The Barn at Villa Venezia in Middletown. Table sponsorships and individual registration to attend the event are now available.

Besides opening the Senate in prayer each day, Chaplain Black provides counseling and spiritual care for Senators, their families, and their staff. He meets with Senators about spiritual and moral issues, assists with research on theological and biblical questions, and facilitates discussion groups. In addition to conducting marriage enrichment counseling and officiating at weddings, funerals, and memorial services, Chaplain Black initiates and participates in special and seasonal observances, leads interdenominational prayer gatherings, and cultivates relationships with local clergy and leaders of humanitarian agencies.

Prior to his service as Chaplain of the Senate, Chaplain Black served the country in the U.S. Navy. He was commissioned as a Navy Chaplain in 1976 and has held assignments throughout the United States and in Okinawa, Japan. As Rear Admiral, his personal decorations include the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two medals), Meritorious Service Medals (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals (two awards), and numerous unit awards, campaign, and service medals.

Sharing the dais with Chaplain Black and addressing the breakfast attendees that morning will be other community leaders and the breakfast's host, County Executive Neuhaus. "Chaplain Black will be an exceptional keynote speaker at our breakfast this year. I look forward to what he will share with all of us," Neuhaus said. "This year's guests will be inspired by Chaplain Black's message of discovering and following God's plan for each of us."

Sponsors of the breakfast receive five (5) seats at a table for ten (10) for a tax-deductible donation of $375.00. The Orange County Leadership Prayer Breakfast committee will use the remaining five (5) seats at the table to invite elected and appointed Orange County municipal officials, community and business leaders, and the public.
