Today, U.S. Helsinki Commission Chairman Rep. Joe Wilson (SC-02) and Ranking Member Rep. Steve Cohen (TN-09) issued the following statement about Ukraine's advance into Russia's Kursk region:

"Ukraine's offensive has been an exceptional demonstration of courage and ingenuity in service of stopping Russia's genocidal campaign against Ukrainians. For two and a half years, Ukrainians have defended their homeland from Putin's barbaric attacks, which disproportionally target civilians and critical infrastructure. For the first time since the war began, Ukraine has taken the fight to the aggressor and showed the world Russia's vulnerabilities. Putin must now answer to Russian citizens, whom he has lied to for years about Russia's successes in the war.

"Now is the time to capitalize on this success and its advantages. It is the duty of the United States to double down on our support by allowing Ukraine to strike deep inside of Russia and supply them with the F-16s and long-range weapons systems they need to drive Russia out of Ukraine and provide safety, peace, and security for the Ukrainian people."
