Readout of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. CQ Brown, Jr.'s Meeting with Egyptian Deputy Minister of Defense Ibrahim Mehrez

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Joint Staff Spokesperson Navy Capt. Jereal Dorsey provided the following readout:

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. CQ Brown, Jr., met with Egyptian Deputy Minister of Defense Ibrahim Mehrez in Gaborone, Botswana today.

Gen. Brown and Deputy Minister Mehrez exchanged views on the current security environment in the Middle East - North Africa region, including in Gaza and the Red Sea, and discussed efforts to de-escalate tensions and enhance stability in the region. The leaders also underscored the urgent need to increase the timely delivery of humanitarian aid to innocent civilians in Gaza through all possible avenues.

The decades-long partnership between the United States and Egypt is a pillar for regional stability.
