Art Explorers Camp

Lee University's Summer Art Camps will take place July 8-12 and July 15-19 for students entering K-12th grade.

There are three art camps to choose from, along with a choice of morning or afternoon sessions, and they include Art Beginners Camp, Art Explorers Camp, and Art Insights Camp.

"The art camps at Lee University provide an excellent opportunity for students to develop their artistic skills, explore their creativity, learn about artists, and build friendships with other students," said Mary Mathias-Dickerson, associate professor of art and director of Summer Art Camps. "The supportive environment and expert guidance offered by the teachers and assistants enhance student ability and inspire their excitement for the arts. Participants leave with confidence in their creative potential and great ideas to continue their artistic development."

Beginners Camp is for rising K-2nd graders. Set up as an active artistic learning experience, students will get lots of hands-on time with crafting, painting, drawing, and clay as they learn about artists and nature.

rt Explorers Camp is for rising 2nd-6th graders. Students will learn about famous artists, and they will create unique works of art in painting, drawing, and sculpture.

Art Insights Camp is for rising 6th-12th graders. Students will practice a wide variety of art skills as they dive into painting, drawing, clay, and 3D projects. There will be instruction provided and time to experiment.

Parents of rising 2nd graders and rising 6th graders can choose which age group would be more beneficial for their child to participate in.

"I started organizing these camps when my oldest was a toddler, and now I have a child in each age group," said Mathias-Dickerson. "Each year Art Camp at Lee University is a highlight that my kids look forward to attending."

Morning sessions take place from 9 a.m. - noon, and afternoon sessions take place from 1-4 p.m.

All art camps will meet in Mayfield Annex at 1301 Magnolia Ave. NE. The fee is $120 per student with a discount available for those registering siblings.
