1 Jul 2024, 16:42

The Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media will meet with representatives from Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ) tomorrow, Tuesday, 2nd July, for discussion regarding the recommendations of the recent Expert Advisory Committee reports into RTÉ and RTÉ's Implementation plan for the Expert Advisory Committee Review Recommendations.

Speaking ahead of the meeting at 7pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Niamh Smyth said: "Our Committee has worked consistently with all parties involved with RTÉ since the events and announcements of last summer came to light. We have met with, amongst others, trade unions representing workers, the RTÉ Leadership Team, current and former RTÉ Board Members and Minister Catherine Martin, T.D. and officials. The Committee welcomes the work of the Expert Advisory Committees commissioned by Minister Martin into matters at RTÉ. We see our work as being central to the continuing reshaping of RTÉ and we remain steadfast in our belief that public service broadcasting is a key pillar of Ireland's democracy and that transparency and accountability on the part of our public service broadcasters are fundamental."

"We will welcome those attending tomorrow to detail what implementation measures are being made within RTÉ to ensure the highest standards of governance, policy, expenditure, and administration are practiced at RTÉ. This is necessary to give much needed reassurance to the hard-working staff of RTÉ and to the Irish people."

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

The Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
