Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage to meet with Residential Tenancies Board

1 Jul 2024, 14:45

The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 2 July, for an engagement with representatives from the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) led by the Interim Director, Mr Owen Keegan.

Ahead of the meeting at 3pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Steven Matthews said: "The RTB was established under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2004 and is an independent body operating under the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. It is responsible for maintaining a register of tenancies; providing a dispute resolution service, primarily for landlords and tenants; ensuring compliance with rental law; and providing information, research, data, insights, and policy advice related to the rental market.

"The Committee welcomes this engagement with Mr Keegan and his colleagues and looks forward to a wide-ranging discussion on matters which fall under the RTB's remit. Key areas of interest for the Committee include the RTB Registration Process and IT system; differences between RTB data and CSO data; implementation of Rent Pressure Zones; and compliance with and enforcement of RTB determinations."

The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
