"When the CCP doesn't play by the rules, it's American workers, American businesses, and the American economy that suffer," Congressman Krishnamoorthi said. "As Ranking Member on the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party, I'm fighting to crack down on practices like illegal dumping by other countries that endanger our security, our economy, and American workers. When American workers and businesses can compete in a fair market, they win, and I'm committed to ensuring we end the predatory trade practices used by the CCP and others."
In March, Congressman Krishnamoorthi joined 36 of his Democratic and Republican colleagues in sending a letter to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo expressing interest in the department implementing anti-dumping countermeasures. The letter followed an October 2023 petition filed with the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) and the Department of Commerce (DOC) by the U.S. Aluminum Extrusion Coalition, which is made up of 14 major aluminum extruders, against the imports of aluminum extrusions from 14 countries, including the People's Republic of China (PRC). The USITC announced in November 2023 that a unanimous preliminary determination had been reached, finding a reasonable indication of material injury as a result of the unfair dumping. The subsequent investigation found that four countries, including the PRC, unfairly subsidize their aluminum extrusion industries.
