Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Presents Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways with $500,000 Check Commemorating the Funding He Secured to Improve Central Road[...]

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL- Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) awarded $500,000 in federal community project funding to the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways (DOTH) to make improvements to a 1.3-mile stretch of Central Road between Barrington Road and Huntington Boulevard in Hoffman Estates and South Barrington. The funding, secured by the Congressman through bipartisan legislation in March, will go towards rebuilding parts of Central Road to meet modern road and transit standards. The general improvements will also include the addition of a multi-use path that will better connect areas along the route, such as Barrington Road and the I-90 Pace bus stop. The path will connect to the existing wider network of bike and pedestrian side paths within the two communities, including the Poplar Creek Trail, which will increase public safety and make traveling within the community easier, safer, and more accessible. Congressman Krishnamoorthi was also joined by Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle, as well as Hoffman Estates Mayor Bill McLeod and South Barrington Mayor Paula McCombie, during the presentation.

"By making improvements to Central Road and adding to South Barrington's and Hoffman Estates' vast multi-use path network, we are connecting our communities while making them even safer for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists," Congressman Krishnamoorthi said. "The funding I secured will improve the quality of life for residents of Hoffman Estates and the surrounding community, and I am grateful to President Preckwinkle and Mayors McLeod and McCombie for their leadership and support for this project."

"Cook County is extremely grateful to Rep. Krishnamoorthi for his support of our work to ensure that the County's infrastructure provides our residents with a high quality of life and allows businesses to thrive," President Preckwinkle said. "These funds will help the County's Department of Transportation and Highways bring the Central Road reconstruction project forward more quickly."

"We appreciate the collaboration between Congressman Krishnamoorthi's office, Cook County and South Barrington in seeing this project to completion," Hoffman Estates Mayor Bill McLeod said. "The Central Road project is a long-awaited improvement that businesses and residents will be very happy with."

"We are very excited and appreciate the efforts of Congressman Krishnamoorthi, President Preckwinkle and all of those who worked on the project towards improving our vital South Barrington entrance on Central Road," South Barrington Mayor Paula McCombie said. "The addition of a multi-use path as part of the project will enhance the roadway even further with the future proposed bike path connection on Barrington Road."
