SCO Observation Mission in Uzbekistan. Day One
On 26 October 2024, the first day of operation of the SCO Observation Mission to monitor the progress and arrangement of elections to the Oliy Majlis Legislative Chamber of the Republic of Uzbekistan and to the Kengashes of People's Deputies, SCO Deputy Secretary General, Head of the Mission Nurlan Ermekbayev held meetings with members of the Central Election Commission and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan Zayniddin Nizamkhodzhayev thanked the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation for participation in the observation of the progress made in preparing and holding parliamentary elections in the republic. He informed the mission representatives on innovations in the election process introduced this year, in particular, holding of elections under a mixed majority-proportional basis, increasing the representation of women and creation of the E-saylov information system. He cited statistical data on the number polling stations, candidates and registered voters.
Nurlan Ermekbayev thanked Zayniddin Nizamkhodzhayev for an invitation to take part in the elections as foreign observers and highlighted the measures to improve its election legislation accepted in Uzbekistan. The head of the mission informed his counterpart on the principles of its activity, such as objective and unbiassed approach of its activity, respect to laws of the hosting country.
During a meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bobur Usmanov, the officials shared their opinions on the results of the Astana summit, session of the Council of Prime Ministers in Islamabad, work to improve the activity of the Organisation.
Bobur Usmanov expressed his confidence in successful modernisation of the Organisation, expressed importance of cooperation in all directions, first and foremost, economy and trade.

Additionally, members of the Mission visited polling stations in Tashkent, had meetings with heads of political parties, representatives of diplomatic circles, media and other international observers.
