Attending the News Conference Following the Elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Local Kengashes
On 28 October 2024, the Press Centre of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a news conference attended by members of foreign monitoring missions to the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the local Kengashes.
SCO Mission head and Deputy Secretary-General of the SCO Nurlan Ermekbayev addressed the news conference with preliminary information on the SCO Monitoring Mission's performance at the parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan.
The SCO Monitoring Mission noted the high level of skill that distinguished election commission members and the availability of numerous high-quality information and reference materials. It also praised the choice of the voting stations' locations and their equipment levels.
Nurlan Ermekbayev also noted novelties in the Republic's election laws, specifically its transition to the majority-proportional voting system, higher female representation, and a stage-by-stage introduction of the E-saylov information system.
The Mission believes that all of these are positive signs that testify to the election laws being improved in keeping with the advanced democratic standards. The public in the Republic of Uzbekistan notes these changes as well and was enthusiastic to take part in the voting.
The Mission recognised the elections, which were held in conformity with the current laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the international commitments it had assumed, as transparent, open, legitimate, and directed at the further development of democratic processes in the country.
Nurlan Ermekbayev congratulated the people of Uzbekistan on behalf of all his Mission members on the successful election to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the local Kengashes, and wished them further success in implementing the country's policy of strengthening its independence, sovereignty and sustainable socioeconomic development.
