Brown Announces New Investment To Improve Streets In Cambridge

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) awarded a $3,641,934 Safer Streets for All grant to the City of Cambridge to make safety improvements to a segment of the Southgate Parkway (OH-209), which connects Downtown Cambridge with retail and commercial centers in the southern areas of the city. The Safer Streets for All program funds regional and local initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries.

The investment was made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law - legislation that Brown helped write and pass - and will support the development of safety action plans and safety improvements.

"With this latest investment from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we are making our roads safer," said Brown. "This investment will allow the City of Cambridge to improve local streets and intersections to help to prevent serious accidents and keep Ohioans safe on the road."

Safety improvements in this project include traffic signal upgrades, the addition of pedestrian crosswalks, new pedestrian traffic signals, and a multiuse path for walking, running, and biking. The project corridor has the highest number of crashes in Guernsey county.
