Brown Announces New Investments For Airport Improvements In Northwest Ohio

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced seven investments totaling $14,172,343 for improvements at seven airports in Northwest Ohio.

"Ohio airports are vital infrastructure supporting travel and commerce in our state," Brown said. "These investments will enhance safety and operations at Northwest Ohio airports and improve travel for Ohio families and businesses."

The Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration has awarded the investments through the Airport Improvement Program. The projects include:

  • $6,435,940 to the Erie-Ottawa International Airport to expand the existing Southwest Apron an additional 25,200 square yards to accommodate more aircraft operations.
  • $4,793,050 to the Findlay Airport to rehabilitate existing lighting on a runway, repair 5,883 feet of paved runway, and shift the existing paved taxiway turnaround to bring the airport into conformity with current standards.
  • $1,170,428 to the Allen County Regional Airport to rehabilitate 7,160 feet of the existing paved Taxiway A and 300 feet of the existing paved Taxiway A2, to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement and to minimize debris to extend their useful lives.
  • $1,001,714 to the Van Wert County Regional Airport to reconstruct the existing lighting and the runway end identifier lights system at both ends of an existing runway that has reached the end of its useful life, and to construct a new lighting vault building with equipment to meet airfield lighting needs and bring the airport into conformity with current standards.
  • $550,896 to the Middle Bass Island Airport to install 2,700 feet of fencing and gates to enhance safety.
  • $169,465 to the Eugene F. Kranz Express Airport for new equipment.
  • $50,850 to the Henry County Airport to help expand the existing general aviation apron.
