LOVE, ENVY, AND HEARTBREAK IN OPERA AUSTRALIA’S LA BOHEME

LOVE, ENVY, AND HEARTBREAK IN OPERA AUSTRALIA'S LA BOHEME

Be captivated when love sparks and four friends' lives change forever in Opera Australia's production of Puccini's La Bohème, appearing at Dubbo Regional Theatre on Saturday 10 August.

This timeless opera, which will feature a special appearance by Macquarie Conservatorium's Youth Chorus, will showcase the extraordinary talent of both professional opera singers and local choir members.

In a contemporary Australian reimagining of the production, award-winning director Dean Bryant brings his trademark wit and vivacity to this new staging, placing this enduring love story in the bohemian 1970s.

Mr Bryant said La Bohème explores universal human experiences and has impressed the ongoing value of taking high-quality live theatre to audiences outside the capital cities.

"This is a story about a group of young artists dealing with all the huge things in life for the first time. Growing up in regional Australia, I had the same passion and urgency to be heard, to fall in love, to live, so it's particularly exciting for me to be taking this production, set in Paris in the 1970s, across the country," Mr Bryant said.

A cast of brilliant Opera Australia singers and musicians will breathe fresh life into one of the world's favourite operas.

Conductor Simon Bruckard will lead the cast, touring orchestra, and the Youth Chorus through Puccini's soaring score, which will enthral first-time operagoers and seasoned audiences alike.

Regional Events Manager Linda Christof said involving the Macquarie Conservatorium is a fantastic opportunity for the Youth Chorus to perform to a large theatre audience onstage.

"We are happy to once again collaborate with the Macquarie Conservatorium. After months of hard work and rehearsals led by the Director of Macquarie Conservatorium Paul Young, the Youth Chorus will perform alongside some of Opera Australia's finest singers."

"It's an exciting experience for the students to perform on the big stage in full costume with professional singers, an orchestra and a conductor, especially to an audience of family and friends," Ms Christof said.

You can see Opera Australia's production of La Bohème on Saturday 10 August at 7.30pm.
