DeLauro Statement on Settler Violence in the West Bank
Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro released a statement in response to reports of settler violence in the West Bank that resulted in the death of one Palestinian.
"On my most recent visit to Israel, I saw firsthand the devastation that settler violence has wrought on innocent Palestinian communities. Entire communities were destroyed, families displaced, and tensions further stoked by an ongoing campaign to violently remove Palestinians from their homes. What I have seen today following reports of continuing violence and the murder of another Palestinian leaves me disquieted. As I have said before, we need an immediate end to settler violence."While I appreciate Israeli officials' condemnations of this violence, more must be done to prevent further incidents. Prime Minister Netanyahu and his government must show they are serious about putting a stop to this, as violence threatens Israel's long-term security, further escalates tensions, and widens the divide between Israelis and Palestinians. We cannot allow settler violence to become a regular and expected occurrence. It must end now."
