Defence Secretary Reviews Progress on New Hostel Construction at Colombo Defence Services College

Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne conducted a site visit to oversee the on-going construction of the four-story hostel building at the Colombo Defence Services College today (Aug 06).

This significant infrastructure project is being executed by the 6 Engineer Services Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army. In addition to the hostel facility, a three-story staff accommodation building is also under construction.

The Sri Lankan Armed Forces collaborated on the project as the school ground is being developed by the Sri Lanka Navy, ensuring a well-equipped outdoor space for the students and Sri Lanka Air Force has taken charge of installing CCTV system, fire detection and protection system and PA/PABX systems.

The Defence Services College in Malay Street, Colombo 02 was mainly established to ease the challenges encountered by the tri-forces and police personnel with regard to the admissions of their children to popular schools.

During his visit, the Defence Secretary emphasized the importance of expediting the construction process to provide the students with the necessary facilities as soon as possible. He highlighted the commitment of the Defence Services to supporting educational institutions and improving the infrastructure that serves the nation's next generation.

The Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, Additional Secretary (Defence Services) to the Ministry of Defence Jayantha Edirisinghe and the Director of the Defence Services College Brigadier Chithral Kulathunga also joined the Defence Secretary on the site visit.
