Celebrating new homes for Albertans in need

As the province grows, Albertans need more diverse housing options to meet their unique needs and budgets. That is why Alberta's government has invested $1 million to support three Habitat for Humanity projects across Alberta. Supporting families across Alberta is a priority for Alberta's government.

Habitat for Humanity recently completed four new homes in Cold Lake and two in the Montrose neighbourhood in Edmonton. Construction also began on four new homes in St. Albert, which are slated for completion in December of this year. Once complete, these projects will provide 10 families with a safe, secure and affordable place to call home.

These 10 new homes will provide safe, secure and affordable housing for Alberta families across the province. Projects like this showcase how partnerships between the non-profit and private sectors and different levels of government can improve and expand affordable home ownership for Albertans."

There is no one-size-fits-all solution for meeting the diverse and unique housing needs of communities across the province. That's why Alberta's government is empowering local partners to build more homes in their communities. The province recognizes the need for more homes and is working to build, renovate and expand affordable housing units in local communities to ensure all Albertans have a safe place to call home.

Habitat for Humanity's affordable home-ownership program provides working families and individuals with an opportunity to purchase a home by partnering with a local Habitat for Humanity chapter. Anyone can apply to become a Habitat homeowner, but they must need housing, be able to make affordable mortgage payments and be willing to actively work with their local Habitat for Humanity organization, including completing 500 volunteer hours.

• The three initiatives received $1 million in bilateral funding from Alberta's government and the Government of Canada, as well as contributions from builders and Habitat for Humanity.
• Since 2019, the Government of Alberta has committed $11 million for 110 Habitat for Humanity units across the province.
• Alberta's government continues to implement the Stronger Foundations affordable housing strategy, which will help support a total of 82,000 low-income households by 2031 - an increase of more than 40 per cent from the strategy's launch in 2021.
