Deezer reimagines hits from the 2000s with the return of InVersions

InVersions 2000s, launching July 18th on Deezer, features trending artists reinterpreting iconic hits.

Paris, 18.07.2024: Deezer, the global music experiences platform, is proud to announce the latest edition of its InVersions series - InVersions 2000s. After exploring the 90s and 80s, Deezer now turns to the 2000s for the next InVersions, showcasing an international and diverse roster of 9 artists, each bringing their distinctive musical perspectives to reimagine hits from the first decade of the millennium.

The 2000s marked a transformative period in music history, with the rise of pop titans like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. R&B also dominated the charts at the time, with superstars like Beyoncé and Alicia Keys making significant impacts. It was a decade that embraced digital production techniques, which shaped the sound across all genres.

British R&B group No Guidnce, who gained popularity on TikTok with their renditions of iconic songs, contributes to InVersions with a fresh interpretation of Rihanna's "Umbrella". No Guidnce rise to internet fame is a perfect example of how creative cover versions can lead to broader recognition and create opportunities for emerging artists.

Another notable contribution comes from American singer and bassist Blu DeTiger, who offers a unique take on Sophie Ellis-Bextor's "Murder on the Dancefloor". DeTiger infuses this classic pop hit with her signature bass lines, adding a groovy layer to the sound. The original 2001 single recently experienced a resurgence after being featured in the movie "Saltburn", highlighting the current revival of 2000s music.

American singer-songwriter and TikTok personality JXDN takes on the Fray's "How To Save A Life" with a tender reworking of the song. He comments: "The music of the 2000s feels timeless and I sense that the world is starting to go back to that sound. People are craving it. Everything, especially music, comes in waves, and after traveling the world recently and talking with people from all over, it's evident that people are craving the realness of 2000s rock specifically. I chose 'How to Save a Life' not only because it's a great song, but because the meaning behind it really resonated with me. I lost my best friend in 2022 and so I felt a special connection to the lyrical content. When I put my own spin on the record, I wanted it to be apparent that I sang it from my heart."

"Deezer invited me down to cover Manu Chao - Me Gustas Tu on their inversions 2000 series. It was super super fun, this track. I made it with a producer that I've loved working with for ages and also has roots to Spain, Mac Wetha", says Irish singer and rapper Biig Piig. "We stripped it completely and made it from scratch. We wanted to add our own kind of feeling of lofi-ness, as well as a bit more of a bossa feel to it, encapsulating that sunny flowy feeling that the original track makes us feel nostalgic for. We added all the radio voices ourselves which was super fun. We both have ties to the track, it was definitely on rotation growing up in Spain on Spanish radio. It was a super fun track to cover, I had a great time doing it and hope that you enjoy listening to it!"

"The 2000s have left a lasting impression in music and gave us unforgettable hits. We're thrilled to celebrate the legacy of this iconic era as we launch the latest installment of InVersions," said Nigel Harding, VP Artist Relations at Deezer. "InVersions has become a fan favorite, offering a fun and unique way to re-experience some of the most well-known hits of the decade through the lens of today's most exciting artists. We can't wait for music fans to discover these fresh takes on 2000s classics."

By inviting current artists to record contemporary versions of well-known songs, Deezer InVersions provides a unique music discovery experience while offering exceptional exposure for featured artists.
