Auburn, ME - Today, U.S. Senator Susan Collins spoke at an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the International Paper (IP) Auburn Box Plant. The plant supports 130 manufacturing jobs in Auburn and the surrounding community. Auburn Mayor Jeffrey Harmon and members of the Auburn City Council were also in attendance.

"The 50th anniversary of the IP Auburn Box Plant is a time to celebrate a manufacturing operation that, from its opening in 1974 to today, has been a tremendous asset to this region and to our state," said Senator Collins during her remarks. "Maine's paper and packaging industry is a vital part of our history. Working together, we can help ensure it is a vital part of our future."

Senator Collins has been a longtime supporter of Maine's paper product manufacturers. She secured more than $16 million in Congressional Directed Spending in last year's funding bills to support research and workforce development for Maine's forest products industry.
