The Daytona Beach Main Street Arch, a symbol of Daytona Beach's rich history, is under construction. The iconic arch, which has connected the boardwalk and pier since the 1930s, holds decades of memories for locals and tourists. As a unique piece of the city's history, the over $800,000 restoration project seeks to bring new life to the arch while preserving its original character.
Restoration efforts began when engineers discovered exterior cracking of the arch. Once crews assessed the arch, they identified deteriorated steel and concrete inside the historic arch. A comprehensive restoration plan was created and is now underway for the nearly 90-year-old landmark.
Demolition is wrapping up, and crews are expected to start the formwork for new concrete beams and columns in the coming weeks. The plan is to restore the structure's integrity with new concrete while preserving the arch's historic look with new coquina around the exterior. While under construction, the arch will be closed to the public. Visitors can still access the boardwalk and businesses along Main Street.
The project is expected to be finished by summer 2025.
