Obion, TN Resident Convicted of TennCare Fraud

NASHVILLE - Today, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) announced the conviction of 54-year-old James Fagan of Obion, Tennessee. Mr. Fagan was convicted of one count of TennCare fraud for illegally selling prescription medication(s) during an undercover drug investigation led by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).

Mr. Fagan's TennCare benefits paid for the cost of the doctor's office visit (from which the prescription was issued) and the prescription medication, totaling $215.08. He has been sentenced to 3 years of probation with the Tennessee Department of Correction and ordered to pay TennCare the $215.08 in restitution.

The case was prosecuted by the Obion County District Attorney General Colin Johnson with the assistance of Assistant District Attorney Jerald Campbell.

"Over the past several years, illegal drug sales involving prescription medications have been on the decline," said Inspector General Chad D. Holman, "but the OIG is continually checking in with our local, state, and federal partners to ensure we are available to assist in pursuing those who are engaged in this type of activity."
