First Responders Weekend Includes Three Events Honoring Emergency Workers

Three events scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 7 and 8 will honor the commitment of fire, police and emergency responders in our community:

• The annual 9/11 Stair Climb will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Fluor Field. Led by the Greenville City Fire Department (GCFD), participants will climb the stadium stairs to honor the first responders who gave their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. The public is welcome to join the climb, which benefits the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Register to Climb
• The Greenville Drive will host the First Responders Game on Sunday, Sept. 8, at Fluor Field. Game time is 3:05 p.m., with activities on District 356 starting outside the stadium at 1 p.m. Families are invited to a touch-a-truck event where they can meet our local heroes. Buy Game Tickets
• The annual Heroes Softball Game will follow the Drive game, at about 6 p.m. at Fluor Field. City firefighters and police officers will face off for their annual softball challenge. Attendees are encouraged to support their favorite team by making a donation to Shriners Hospital of Greenville. The hospital provides high-quality specialty medical care to the children and families, regardless of their ability to pay or insurance.
