SACRAMENTO, Calif. -Equality California, the nation's largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, today announced the endorsements of thirteen candidates running for local offices - the organization's latest round of endorsements in its largest get-out-the-vote effort in the organization's history.
"We are thrilled to endorse these LGBTQ+ and pro-equality candidates running for local offices," saidExecutive Director Tony Hoang. "With attacks on LGBTQ+ Californians increasing at the local level - including city councils and school boards across the state considering policies like Pride flag bans and the forced outing of LGBTQ+ students - it is imperative we elect representatives who will lead the charge in the ongoing fight for full, lived equality. This election, we are endorsing non-LGBTQ+ pro-equality allies for school board races in districts like Chino Valley and Temecula, where attempts have been made to openly discriminate against LGBTQ+ students. We are heartened by the success of our endorsed candidates so far this election cycle - as well as our 100% success rate in recalling extremist school board members throughout the year - and we look forward to supporting a strong slate heading into the general election this November."
