CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Oct. 1, 2024) - The Charlotte County Community Development Department has implemented a tagging system to efficiently communicate the results of property damage assessments. This system is designed to inform property owners of critical next steps regarding permits and safety precautions for repairs and construction.

As part of this new system, tags in various colors - yellow, green, orange, and red - are being used to indicate specific actions required for each property based on the assessment.

Please note the following important points:

  • Some tags clearly indicate when a property has been deemed unsafe for occupancy or further use.
  • The primary purpose of these tags is to notify property owners when a permit is required before any repairs or reconstruction can proceed.
  • If a contractor advises that no permit is necessary, the tag serves as an official reminder to property owners that permits are still required.

Previously, yellow tags were used exclusively to indicate the need for permits. However, with the increased volume of damage assessments, the expanded color system helps streamline communication between the Community Development Department and property owners.

This tagging system is critical for protecting property owners from potential legal and financial complications that may arise if work is conducted without the necessary permits. Compliance with these tags helps ensure that repairs are completed safely and in accordance with county regulations.
