Wake County woman charged with insurance fraud, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and filing a false report to a police station

RALEIGH

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Monique Lewis Little, 56, of 1425 Curfman St., Raleigh, NC. Little was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies. She was also charged with filing a false report to a police station, a misdemeanor.

According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance's Criminal Investigations Division, Little claimed her motor vehicle had been involved in a hit and run accident to National General Insurance Company. She later claimed that a bird strike had caused the accident to the insurance company, both in an attempt to gain $2,997.43, agents said. She later falsely told the Raleigh Police Department that a bird had struck her car in a parking lot, causing an accident.

According to the arrest warrant, the offenses occurred on Jan. 23, 2024 and July 8, 2024.

Little was arrested on August 22 and released on a $5,000 secured bond. She appeared in Wake County District Court on August 23.

"Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet," Commissioner Causey said. "Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I'm fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina."
