SCSU ranked a top college athletics program in Minnesota; fall teams off to strong start

St. Cloud State University has been honored by Niche as one of the best college athletics programs in Minnesota, while Huskies fall sports teams are off to impressive starts this year.

Niche is a leading college search tool, often used by students in determining where to attend school. SCSU was recently ranked No. 5 in Minnesota for college athletics programs.

"We are committed to succeeding at a high level with programs that are the top in Minnesota and across the region and country," said Athletics Director Holly Schreiner. "This ranking shows that we are achieving our goals and that we are committed to being at the top. It is a great time to be a Husky."

The Huskies are deserving of the ranking, already seeing substantial success in the opening weeks of the season. Volleyball is ranked No. 9 in Division II and is off to a 10-2 start, currently riding a six-game win streak. SCSU has two home games at Halenbeck Hall this weekend, facing Sioux Falls on Friday and No. 4-ranked Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday.

Men's Soccer is 6-2 overall after winning six consecutive games, including five at home. The Huskies now sit in first place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a perfect 4-0 conference record. Women's Soccer is also off to a strong start in their quest to repeat as Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference champs, beginning the year 6-2. They have upcoming home matches on Friday and Sunday at Husky Stadium.

Men's and Women's hockey are both nationally ranked to begin the year, and they each play at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center this weekend. No. 11 Women's Hockey hosts Mercyhurst in a doubleheader, while No. 16 Men's Hockey will face the University of Minnesota in an exhibition on Saturday.

Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving also is at home in an action-packed weekend for Huskies Athletics, kicking off the regular season by hosting Northern Michigan on Friday and Saturday.

Seven different SCSU teams will participate in a total of 12 events on campus this weekend. Visit scsutickets.com to buy a ticket and come out to support the Huskies!
