MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The following is a collection of events happening around Penn State Harrisburg for the next week.

Performances

PHILDANCO! - 7:30-9 p.m., Oct. 10, Kulkarni Theatre. Since its founding in 1970, to counter a lack of opportunity for dancers of color, the Philadelphia Dance Company (PHILADANCO!) has been hailed as a pinnacle and example of how predominately Black companies can exist and flourish. Join us to celebrate 55 years of groundbreaking methods of teaching, hiring, and presenting emerging and professional dancers and choreographers. Across the nation and around the world, PHILADANCO! is celebrated for its innovation, creativity and preservation of predominantly African-American traditions in dance. Fall Fest 2024 - 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Oct. 9, Vartan Plaza. Join the Program & Activities Committee for activities, freebies and food.

Mental Health Day - 2-4 p.m., Oct. 10, Olmsted Gallery Lounge W107. Celebrate Mental Health Day. Organized by International Students Office & CAPS.

Navratri - 6-9 p.m., Oct. 11, Heat Plant Green Space (with rain location CUB 210). Navaratri is an annual Hindu festival observed in honor of the goddess Durga, an aspect of Adi Parashakti, the supreme goddess. The event will feature music, food, dance and more.

Lectures

Truist Kickoff - 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Oct. 7, Olmsted Auditorium C213. "Startups in AI". Join the kickoff of the Truist Empowered Entrepreneur Executive Series for a look into the future of artificial intelligence. In partnership with the School of Business Administration (thanks to Professor Hoxha), guest lecturer Can Dogan, associate professor of economics at Radford University, will discuss his research on the future of AI and its impact on the dynamics of business. In-person exhibits

"Faces: Portraits of Students at Penn State Harrisburg" - Through Dec. 20, Hanes Library. Presented by the School of Humanities in collaboration with the Madlyn L. Hanes Library. The inaugural Student Art Showcase for fall 2024 features nine self-portraits created by undergraduate students in studio art classes at the college. The paintings are now available for viewing on the "Art Wall." This new area of the library is dedicated to displaying art owned by the college and highlighting the creative works of students at Penn State Harrisburg. The "Art Wall" is located near the Reference Collection on the first floor of the library and near newly acquired seating and tables.

"Driving, Designing, and Defying: Women Paving the Way in Automotive History" - Through Dec. 20, Hanes Library. In celebration of Women's History Month 2024. This exhibition is available for view through Dec. 20 on the first floor of the Hanes Library. This exhibition represents a multi-year partnership between the Antique Automobile Club of America's Chris & Kathleen Koch Library & Research Center and Archives and Special Collections in the Madlyn L. Hanes Library at Penn State Harrisburg. Featuring more than 100 items in five display cases, it showcases women and their many contributions to automotive history. It includes a combination of original materials and facsimiles from the 1880s through the 2020s, such as advertisements, automotive brochures, automobilia, books, magazine covers, photographs, road maps, and even a rare woman's vintage driving coat and dress from the early 1900s.

"Forty-Five Years After the Meltdown: Remembering the Accident at TMI in 2024" - Through Dec. 20, Hanes Library. Thursday, March 28, 2024, marked the 45th anniversary of the nation's worst nuclear accident, which happened at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant, located on an island in the Susquehanna River near Middletown, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. This exhibition, located in the Archives and Special Collections' Reading Room on the library's 3rd floor, features books, rare ephemera, and other unique memorabilia about TMI, including recent acquisitions from area residents and local donors.

As availability of the archives is limited, visitors are encouraged to schedule a visit at least two weeks in advance of the requested date/time.
