LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON THE KILLING OF SONYA MASSEY

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement:

Sonya Massey was a loving mother, wonderful cook and God-fearing woman who should be alive today.

Like many Americans, she called 911 for help when she feared for her safety. Instead of upholding his duty to protect and serve, a responding officer fatally shot Sonya in what appears to be the excessive use of force by someone with a very checkered history. I am thankful for the leadership of the Department of Justice and local prosecutors for their decisive actions to hold the officer accountable.
