Dingell Applauds Administration Decision to Grant Deferred Enforced Departure to Eligible Lebanese Nationals

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) today applauded the Biden-Harris Administration's action granting Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) to approximately 11,500 Lebanese nationals who meet the eligibility standards to remain in the United States for the specified term of 18 months and to apply for work authorization.

"Michigan is home to many Lebanese Americans who continue to watch their families suffer as Lebanon faces an unprecedented economic, political, and financial disaster that has resulted in an urgent and devastating humanitarian crisis," Dingell said. "The United States has long offered refuge to those seeking shelter from catastrophe, and I have long worked for Deferred Enforced Departure and Temporary Protected Status to grant safety and security to those who need it most. I thank the Administration for this important step to protect these families, who are true Americans, and will continue to advocate for TPS."

Dingell has long led the effort in writing to the Administration urging Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and DED for Lebanese nationals.
