Dingell Statement on Death of Alma Powell
Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) released the following statement on the death of Alma Powell.
"Alma Powell was a close friend who with strength, compassion, dignity, and respect made a difference in so many people's lives. She was a rock of a friend for four decades. Perhaps one of the best examples I remember, when going through a personally challenging time, she suggested I visit a hospital where babies with AIDS were being treated, and needed to be rocked and held, and said it would help both of us. She was right - it healed my heart and soul. She worked on many issues that mattered and was tirelessly committed to education and improving the lives of children through her leadership at America's Promise. She cared about young people, giving them a chance, inspiring and empowering them, and encouraging education and civic engagement. Together we shared books, friends, projects, and life. She was a great and special woman who will be dearly missed."
