Chino, CA - During Veterans Day Weekend, U.S. Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) held a special pinning ceremony at the Planes of Fame Air Museum to welcome, honor, and recognize the bravery, dedication, and sacrifices of all U.S. veterans who served on active duty from November 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975. The lapel pin, part of the national effort to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, serves as a tribute to their courage, resilience, and the challenges they faced both in combat and upon returning home.
"Veterans give so much to our country through selfless service, and it's our duty to honor them long after their service is complete. Our nation is safer and stronger when we care for those who protected us," said Congresswoman Torres. "This Veterans Day, I'm thinking of those who have been overlooked or struggled to receive basic support, and I will keep advocating in Congress for the best care for all who have served. The pinning ceremony is a meaningful way to recognize their sacrifices and remind them their service is truly appreciated."
Congresswoman Norma Torres has spent her career fighting for veterans and military families through key legislation and initiatives. In June 2021, Congresswoman Torres' G.I. Veterans Education Empowerment Act (GIVE Act) was signed into law, expanding the G.I. Comparison Tool, enabling veterans to access tailored educational opportunities, including Minority-serving, religious-affiliated, and gender-specific institutions. She has championed access to quality health care and education for veterans, introducing the Veterans Administration Backlog Accountability Act to expedite claims processing and reintroducing the GI Bill Distance Learning Improvement Act to enhance veterans' access to online education. Additionally, her commitment extends to military families, advocating for career support and job training for retired military personnel. This year, she introduced the Servicemember Equal Recognition & Transition Support (SERTS) Act, helping veterans translate their military-acquired certifications, like airplane mechanics, into civilian careers. Congresswoman Torres will continue working with local businesses to create meaningful employment pathways for veterans.
