Freedom vs. Extremism: The Stark Contrast of the Harris Walz Gun Safety Agenda and the Trump Vance Guns Everywhere Agenda

WASHINGTON - Over the last week, Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz barnstormed swing states across the country, running on the fight for our freedoms - including freedom from gun violence. Donald Trump and J.D. Vance, on the other hand, are running on an extreme, guns everywhere agenda that threatens to reverse the steepest decline in gun violence in a generation. With 85 days until the election, the choice in front of voters is night and day.

"The freedom to be safe from gun violence is on the ballot this November, and the choice facing Americans couldn't be more stark: Harris and Walz will fight to protect families from gun violence, while Trump and Vance have pledged to roll back all the life-saving progress the Biden-Harris Administration has achieved," said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. "That's why Everytown is going all-out to defeat Trump's extreme 'guns everywhere' agenda, and send Kamala Harris back to the White House."

Trump and Vance's Guns Everywhere Agenda:

• Opposing common sense gun safety laws such as background checks, bans on assault weapons and large-capacity magazines, and Extreme Risk laws that allow courts to remove firearms from someone who is determined to be a danger to themselves or others.

• Defunding or even abolishing the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the federal law enforcement agency that protects the public from violent crime and regulates the gun industry.

• Eliminating funding for federal gun violence prevention laws, regulations, and research.

• Giving the gunlobby a front-row seat to shape dangerous policies.

• Calling gun violence "fake problems" and telling folks to "get over it" after school shootings.

Harris and Walz's Gun Safety Agenda:

• Continuing the life saving work of the Biden-Harris Administration, including implementing the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, fighting for full funding for ATF, and utilizing the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention.

• Calling for an assault weapons ban to protect our communities from weapons of war and supporting common sense gun safety laws like background checks on all gun sales and Red Flag laws.

• Working alongside survivors of gun violence to advocate for safer communities.

• Standing up to the gun industry and holding them accountable through legislation to repeal PLCAA, end restrictions on trace data, and increase oversight of gun dealers.

• Pushingback against the extremist guns everywhere agenda that threatens our communities and law enforcement.
