PARIS - Former University of Cincinnati volleyball standout Jordan Thompson and Team USA claimed silver at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Thompson becomes the first Bearcat to win an Olympic medal at multiple Games. She is also the second Bearcat to medal from the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, joining Annette Echikunwoke (silver, hammer throw).

The U.S. women fell to Italy in the final of the Olympics (18-25, 20-25, 17-25). Thompson was Team USA's top point scorer, finishing with eight points in three sets played. With the silver, the U.S. women have won seven Olympic medals, the most of any country. It's also their fifth straight medal. Thompson was part of the 2020 U.S. team that won the gold medal in Tokyo.
Thompson was recently announced to the 2024 James P. Kelly UC Athletics Hall of Fame Class. She earned the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year accolade in 2015 and followed that up as a three-time unanimous AAC Player of the Year in 2016, 2018 and 2019. She was the first volleyball player in AAC history to earn unanimous honors and receive the award three times. Thompson led Cincinnati to its best season in school history with a Sweet 16 appearance in 2019, collecting AVCA All-America First team honors.

PARIS - Former University of Cincinnati volleyball standout Jordan Thompson and Team USA will play for a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Team USA advanced to the finals with a thrilling five-set win over Brazil on Thursday (25-23, 18-25, 25-15, 23-25, 15-11). Thompson played a large role in the victory, finishing with five points on four kills and a block.

The gold medal match will take place on Sunday, with first serve scheduled for 7 a.m. ET. Team USA will face the winner of Italy and Turkey.

"There's the outside, I guess, pressure trying to say, Oh, are you guys going to repeat? Are you going to do it? And really, trying to block that out and just be like, we're on our own journey. And whatever happens, happens. We're here to fight and we're not trying to prove anything for anyone other than ourselves," Thompson said on expectations to repeat as gold medal winners.

"We're not talking about, at the end of the day, we want to have a gold medal around our necks," said Thompson. "We're talking about, Hey, when we're being pushed on the court, what do we want our huddle to look like? What do we want our self-talk to look like? What do we want our talk within teammates to look like? How do we want to support each other? And I think when you have such great attention to detail, the bigger things will start to take care of themselves, and not necessarily in the sense of you're always going to win, you're always going to come out on top. But you're putting yourself in a lot better position when your fundamentals as teammates are really strong."

The U.S. women won their first-ever gold medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. In history, the U.S. women have won three silver and two bronze medals.

Thompson was recently announced to the 2024 James P. Kelly UC Athletics Hall of Fame Class.
