The UW Board of Trustees today (Wednesday) approved a reorganization that will move the Office of Alumni Affairs into the Office of the President, effective Jan. 1.
"I am thrilled that the Office of Alumni Affairs is joining the Office of the President," UW President Ed Seidel says. "Under the leadership of Executive Director Jack Tennant, our efforts to support and engage our alumni have strengthened significantly, and this reorganization will only help to elevate alumni's impact inside of UW and throughout the state, world and nation."
The UW Alumni Association, an independent organization, is led by board President Jane France, and its mission is to build pride, loyalty and future sustainment among the UW community through communication, involvement, engagement and celebration. The Office of Alumni Affairs is a unit of the university that serves as the staff of the Alumni Association and currently has eight full-time employees.
"The UW Alumni Association Board of Directors is pleased and excited about our new relationship with President Seidel," France says. "He has been incredibly supportive of our efforts, and we look forward to working closely with him and his office as we continue to grow our alumni engagement to reach 'every alum.'"
UW has about 150,000 alumni living across the world, with about half living in the Cowboy State. The 11,000 members of the Alumni Association elect the organization's 22 in-state and nationwide board members.
