October Recap: Exciting Updates from Pathways to Partnerships

October was an inspiring and activity-filled month for Pathways to Partnerships (P2P), as we embarked on new initiatives, deepened partnerships, and supported students and families in their journey toward successful futures. Here's a look at some of the highlights:

Celebrating a New Partnership

The month began with the announcementof an exciting collaboration with Polk County School District (PSD). Together with the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA) and Centers for Independent Living (CILs), this partnership focuses on supporting students with disabilities and their families. The grant underscores the vital role of parents and families in the journey, offering valuable resources and parent learning sessions.

Pathway to Dreams Launch

We are thrilled to announce the official launch of the "Pathway to Dreams" program with middle school students in the service areas of Northwest Georgia Center for Independent Living (CIL) and Disability Connections Center for Independent Living (CIL). Through engaging lessons, students are empowered to share their stories, reflect on their career aspirations, and begin their journeys toward achieving their dreams.

Spotlighting Progress

The P2P curriculum has been making waves in participating schools, with students actively exploring career possibilities and developing critical soft skills. Warner Robins Middle (WRMS) and Feagin Mill Middle (FMMS) students started strong, engaging in interactive lessons that inspired self-reflection on future careers. Similarly, Cedartown Middle (CMS) and Rockmart Middle (RMS) students participated in activities designed to uncover their strengths and interests, paving the way for informed career exploration.

Building Futures Together

Collaboration has been the backbone of this initiative. Thanks to the joint efforts of GVRA, partnering CILs, and local education agencies (LEAs), we are creating opportunities that equip students with the skills they need for positive post-secondary outcomes and competitive integrated employment. Houston County Schools and Polk County Schools have been integral in enabling our P2P Team Members to work closely with students, ensuring a smooth and impactful implementation.

Family Engagement at Camp Twin Lakes

P2P had the privilege of participating in Walton Options' Family Weekend at Camp Twin Lakes. This event brought families, staff, and students together for activities like climbing, archery, ceramics, and horseback riding. It was a joy to connect with the community and witness the positive impact of collaboration.

Career Exploration Highlights

Throughout October, students delved deeper into career exploration through interactive surveys and hands-on activities. From identifying personal preferences that influence future workplace settings to discovering career areas that align with their strengths, students are beginning to visualize their paths forward. These lessons, facilitated by our dedicated CIL instructors, are fostering excitement and confidence among students about their future options.

As the "Pathway to Dreams" program continues, we are excited to spotlight upcoming weeks of implementation and celebrate the growth of our students. Together, we remain committed to being "One Team, One Dream," united in the goal of empowering students with disabilities to achieve remarkable outcomes.
