Speaker Heastie Continues Annual Statewide Tour in Capital Region with Assemblymember Steck, Announcing $1 Million for Public Safety Improvements

Speaker Carl Heastie continued his annual statewide tour today with Assemblymember Phil Steck at the Town of Colonie Public Safety Center to announce $650,000 in funding to activate the Colonie Emergency Medical Services' (EMS) "Safe Streets For All" federal grant and $350,000 to replace Colonie Police Department's portable radios for school resource officers.

"The safety and security of New York's families requires a continued investment in our emergency response teams," said Speaker Heastie. "I'm proud to join Assemblymember Steck today to announce the funding to make our streets safer and improve communication services across schools in the Town of Colonie."

"This investment bolsters our efforts to reduce traffic fatalities in Colonie and strengthens our EMS and Police Department's capacity to respond to emergencies swiftly and effectively. Our comprehensive approach will ensure the safety of all community members across the Capital Region."

Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Steck met with Town of Colonie Emergency Medical Services Chief Paul Sugrue and Town of Guilderland Director of Emergency Medical Services Jay Tyler to tour the Town of Colonie Public Safety Center. After the tour they announced $650,000 in funding to activate the Colonie Emergency Medical Services' "Safe Streets For All" federal grant and $350,000 to replace Colonie Police Department's portable radios to aid school resource officers.

In April, the Town of Colonie Department of Emergency Medical Services was awarded a $2.3 million federal grant to support "The Responder & Patient Safety Improvement Project", a two-pronged solution that seeks to improve road conditions and post-crash response. The $650,000 from the Assembly Majority provides the necessary funds to activate the grant, allowing the Towns of Colonie, Guilderland and Clifton Park the ability to cover advanced public safety services.
