Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind 185th Anniversary

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind 185th Anniversary

WHEREAS, the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind (VSDB) is the oldest school in the nation to serve both the Deaf and the Blind and the only state-supported school in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the VSDB prepares students for life and empowers them to achieve the highest level of independence possible; and

WHEREAS, the VSDB offers unique and prescriptive programs that focus on the whole child and meets the individual needs of each student; and

WHEREAS, the VSDB offers students hands-on fully accessible learning opportunities that develop leadership, self-advocacy, and problem-solving skills; and

WHEREAS, the VSDB provides each child with a sense of community and belonging; and

WHEREAS, the VSDB provides a learning environment that values all students equally and promotes respect and responsibility; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia joins the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind in celebrating 185 years of enriching the educational landscape of the Commonwealth and strengthening the Spirit of Virginia;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize the 185th ANNIVERSARY OF THE VIRGINIA SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF AND THE BLIND in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
