Dr. Jeff Susman, senior associate dean and professor of family medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch, is one of seven recipients selected by the National Board of Medical Examiners for the 2024 Edithe J. Levit Distinguished Service Award.

Recipients of the award are selected from individuals retiring from the NBME Council and others who have served NBME exceptionally in their dedication to research related to the evaluation of health professionals, according to the NBME.

"We are proud to acknowledge these seven exceptional individuals," Susan Deitch, NBME Secretary of the Board, said. "The unwavering dedication of our volunteers is truly invaluable to NBME's work."

Founded in 1915, the NBME develops and manages assessments of student physicians. In partnership with the Federation of State Medical Boards, the NBME develops and manages the United States Medical Licensing Examination. The NBME also creates assessments and materials used by medical students, educators, practicing physicians, and for state licensing exams of physicians.

"It's an honor to receive the NBME Distinguished Service Award," Susman said. "Working with the NBME has been a highlight of my professional career. In working with such a distinguished group of colleagues and staff, I always felt I received more from my participation than I gave."
