Micah Thomas is expected to graduate with his Ph.D. in Economics in 2025.

Vitor Melo and Micah Thomas, doctoral candidates in economics at the Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business, were accepted and attended this year's Price Theory Summer Camp, an intensive one-week economics program hosted by the Becker-Friedman Institute of Economics at the University of Chicago this summer.

Melo and Thomas were selected in a highly competitive process among candidates from some of the leading universities across the nation. The Price Theory Summer Camp was created by University of Chicago economist Kevin Murphy to introduce external doctoral candidates to price theory. The Price Theory Summer Camp featured experts presenting their latest research findings, workshops and seminars. Melo and Thomas also had the opportunity to share their own work with some of the world's leading economists.

Vitor Melo is expected to graduate with his Ph.D. in Economics in 2025.

Melo shared his thoughts on the experience. "The Price Theory Camp was an incredible and enlightening experience. I had the opportunity to meet some of the most accomplished economists in the world and discuss various economics topics with them. I also got the opportunity to meet and learn with Ph.D. students from many of the best universities in the country. I am very grateful for this opportunity, and I am confident that what I learned will greatly impact my own research and teaching."

Scott Baier, professor and The John E. Walker Department of Economics chair, says this opportunity was valuable for the two students. "The Chicago Price Theory Summer Camp is highly selective, so the Department was thrilled to learn that Micah and Vitor were accepted into the program. They are outstanding students and excellent choices. They are both off to a promising start as research economists."
