PennDOT Issues Update on I-80 Preservation Project

08/14/2024

Clearfield, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that work will start in the eastbound lanes for its Interstate 80 preservation project between mile markers 97 and 120 in Clearfield County on Saturday, August 17. This project will improve the ride quality and extend the service life of nearly 24 miles of roadway and six bridges along this stretch.

Starting Saturday, the contractor will begin milling, joint repair, and paving on I-80 eastbound between mile markers 114 and 119.5. PennDOT will close one lane, leaving the other free for drivers to pass through the work area. The open lane will alternate while work progresses on this moving operation, which PennDOT expects to continue for approximately a month. PennDOT urges drivers to exercise caution in this and all work zones, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.

On I-80 westbound, PennDOT expects work to complete full-depth reconstruction at the Goshen Road and Flegal Road overpasses to continue through the end of August. Traffic remains reduced to one lane between mile markers 118.5 and 115. This traffic pattern has been in place since July 8.

Additionally, the contractor will reduce Route 153 to a single lane in each direction near the Clearfield-Penfield interchange at mile marker 111 as the contractor removes the existing guide rail and the median curb and island in preparation for work on the on/off-ramps on each side of the Interstate.

Overall work on this project involves paving, bridge improvements, installation of Intelligent transportation devices, guide rail installation, pavement marking, and miscellaneous construction. HRI, Inc., of State College, is the contractor on this $47.7 million project. PennDOT anticipates project completion in November 2025. All work is weather-dependent.
