Sen. Johnson Reveals “Politically Motivated” Attempt to Hinder DHS Inspector General’s Oversight of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Failed Border Policies

WASHINGTON - On Monday, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), ranking member of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, and U.S. Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) sent a letter to Kimberly Howell, Chairperson of the Integrity Committee, which is part of the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE), after whistleblowers alleged the committee may be inappropriately targeting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) for political reasons. The letter requested information relating to the Integrity Committee's apparent ongoing investigations into the DHS OIG.

The DHS Inspector General, Dr. Joseph Cuffari, was appointed by President Donald Trump and has helmed multiple inspections into vulnerabilities at the southern border. Whistleblowers allege that the Integrity's onerous examinations may be an attempt to hinder, delay, or stop the DHS OIG's effort to expose the Biden-Harris administration's policy failures.

"[A]ny effort to obstruct, delay, or silence the DHS OIG, particularly for political purposes, is completely unacceptable," the senators wrote.
