Presentations

Suzanne Burton, senior associate dean for the arts and professor of music education, with colleague Joanne Rutkowski of Penn State, presented their research on the sustainability of early childhood music research and practice at the International Society for Music Education, Early Childhood Music Education commission conference in Helsinki, Finland, July 24, 2024.

Heinz-Uwe Haus, professor of theatre, who is internationally known for his literary and artistic work under the pseudonym Jean Bodin, had a staged reading of two dramatic texts in Greek language at the Amphitheater Mitsero, Cyprus, on July 8, 2024, invited by the Kouroushis Foundation. Two prominent actors of the Nationaltheatre THOC presented the works. Anthi Antoniadou interpreted the one-women-monologue "The Nurse" (translated by Marianna Papastephanou), which draws on biographical details of one of the former Soviet "nurses" of the Libyan dictator Ghadafi during her attempt to rejuvenate in the Fontana Amorosa after her escape to the island of Aphrodite. Neoclis Neocleos let a 15-part choir "Decomposition at a distance on the record or Sleep's murderer black sun" (translated by George Neophytou) be heard, "demasking the promises of the totalitarian state, which maximizes its control over the lives of its citizens by applying the dual rationale of the 'public good' and the rule of the majority with linguistic force and intellectual sharpness" (Kostas Hadshigeorgiou, Anef).
