Rosen Announces Nearly $1 Million in Funding to Expand Access to Distance Learning, Skills Training in Rural Nevada

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) announced nearly $1 million in federal funding to expand access to distance learning and skills training for Nevadans living in rural areas. The funding comes from the Department of Agriculture's Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) grant program, and it will support secondary and postsecondary students and community residents in Elko, Humboldt, Lander, Nye, Pershing, and White Pine Counties. The funding will be used to equip sites to deliver associate and baccalaureate level instruction in career and technical education, health science, mathematics, science, business and computing, humanities and social sciences, fine arts, and community education. Senator Rosen previously introduced bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the DLT program and led a letter to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies requesting funding for it.

"I'm proud to announce that nearly $1 million in federal funding is coming to rural Nevada to provide distance learning opportunities and skills training," said Senator Rosen. "This funding will help Nevadans receive the education and training they need to be able to access good-paying jobs. I'll keep pushing to ensure Nevada's workers have the resources they need to thrive."

Senator Rosen has been working to support Nevada's workforce. Earlier this year, she reintroduced bipartisan legislation to bolster the housing construction workforce and help lower housing costs. She announced over $4 million for registered apprenticeships and workforce development in northern Nevada. Senator Rosen also announced the delivery of federal funding she secured as part of the FY23 bipartisan appropriations package for workforce development in southern Nevada.
