Everytown Opened Field Office in Detroit to Support Voter Outreach Efforts, Partnered with Senate Majority PAC for Multi-Million Dollar Effort in Michigan
Everytown Supporters, Alongside Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action Volunteers, Made More Than 12 Million Voter Contacts To Support Gun Sense Candidates Nationwide
WASHINGTON - Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, and Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund declared a major victory today as voters elected gun sense champion Representative Elissa Slotkin to the U.S. Senate. In October, Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund and Senate Majority PAC announced a $4 million paid media campaign across Michigan and Pennsylvania to highlight MAGA Republicans' opposition to common sense gun safety laws and history of supporting extreme abortion bans.
"When a state like Michigan, with its long tradition of hunting, elects a gun sense champion like Elissa Slotkin, it's clear the politics around gun safety have undergone a seismic shift," said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. "Everytown made sure Michigan voters knew that Mike Rogers opposed common-sense gun safety laws - and now we'll work with Senator-elect Slotkin on new measures to keep guns out of dangerous hands."
"Elissa Slotkin is a proven leader on our issue, from championing secure storage initiatives to advocating for background checks," said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. "Our movement has made incredible progress in Michigan over the last few years because voters there have made it clear they want an end to America's gun violence crisis. We're excited to keep building on this momentum with Senator-elect Slotkin by our side."
"Senator-elect Slotkin has a record of standing with Gen Z in our fight to prevent gun violence, and now she'll have an even bigger platform to push for common-sense gun safety laws in the Senate," said Rebekah Schuler, a survivor of the 2021 mass shooting at Oxford High School and volunteer leader with Students Demand Action from Michigan. "For those of us who've experienced the trauma of gun violence firsthand, we know how important it is to have leaders at the national level putting our safety over the gun lobby's agenda. Her victory is a reminder that when we vote, we save lives."
The victory for Senator-elect Slotkin reflects continued progress in the state of Michigan. In 2022, nine Moms Demand Action volunteers won their elections to the state legislature in Michigan, flipping the statehouse and delivering the first gun sense majorities in nearly 40 years. Following their victories, the Michigan legislature passed major gun safety legislation that Governor Whitmer signed into law.
In October, Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund and Senate Majority PAC launched a seven-figure paid media campaign for the 2024 elections, with ads highlighting the threat posed to public safety and health by MAGA Republican Mike Rogers's opposition to common sense gun safety policies and history of supporting extreme abortion bans
Earlier this year, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Victory Fund announced a $45 million major electoral program, which included launching a new grassroots voter contact program to help elect gun sense candidates and defeat gun extremists up and down the ballot in key swing districts and states. These efforts focused on young voters on college campuses, voters of color, and suburban women in Arizona, California, Georgia Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. As part of the electoral program, Everytown hired and deployed 36 field organizers across the ten states. In Philadelphia, Detroit, and Tempe, Everytown opened field offices to support overall efforts.
