Suspect Arrested on Assault Charges After a Large Party Call

At about 2:00 AM, on Friday, July 5, 2024, officers assigned to District E-18 (Hyde Park), E-5 (Roslindale/West Roxbury) and B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Joquentz Constant, 28, of Dorchester, on Assault charges.

Officers responded to the area of 565 River Street for a report of a large crowd. Officers gave multiple verbal commands for the crowd to disperse or they would be subject to arrest for disorderly conduct and unlawful assembly.

A shirtless male individual began screaming and verbally aggressive towards officers. The male was pulled back into an apartment by members of the crowd. Officers then observed the male run towards Marcy Road and attempted to fight an unknown person.

Officers observed the individual to be holding a knife in his hand. Officers feared that the suspect was attempting to stab the victim. Officers gave verbal commands to drop the knife, and the suspect threw the knife into an empty yard on River Street. Officers were able to recover the knife and disperse the crowd.

Constant was placed under arrest and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault, and Disorderly Conduct. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
